SMT

Newonics has years of experience in SMT.  We were the first contract manufacturer in the state of Utah to place BGAs and components as small as 0201.  To date we have placed hundreds of thousands of BGAs.  Our SMT lines use modern up to date equipment built by some of the best names in the industry.  We use DEK printers, Philips/Assembleon placement machines and Vitronics-Soltec Ovens.

We pride ourselves in having the most experienced staff and the best SMT expertise in the state.  Our process engineers thoroughly review every new product and routinely identify issues before manufacturing, saving our customers time and expensive rework.  We quickly diagnose and correct problems and provide feedback to our customers on manufacturing issues.  All oven profiles are saved and 100 percent of all boards are inspected by AOI.  When the product merits it, 100 percent X-Ray and visual inspection are also performed.  We work closely with our customers to fine tune the manufacturing of their products. We encourage our customers to be present when new products are run and first articles are tested and approved.

Thru Hole

For thru hole placement, we use Contact Systems CS-4000 semi-automatic insertion machines.  These machines feed the operator the proper component, identify the proper placement location and polarity, and then cut and clench the leads.   This process greatly reduces the chances of human error.  Components not suited for these machines are placed in continuous slide lines.

We have dedicated flow solder machines for both RoHS compliant lead free soldering and traditional leaded solders.  For boards with surface mount components on both sides and also needing thru hole components, we use selective solder pallets whenever possible eliminating the need for costly hand soldering.

Hand Solder

We use IPC-A-610 as our quality standard.  Boards are normally worked to Class 2 and we are capable of Class 3 requirements.  Newonics employs the best solder technicians in the state.  Many of them have been with us for 5 to 10 years.  Our highest level solder technicians are capable of touching up components as small as 0201 or building complete quick turn prototypes including soldering all fine pitch and leadless components.  With over fifteen qualified solder technicians, using the newest tools available, we are able to handle both RoHS compliant and traditional soldering requirements.

Test

We are accustomed to working with many customer defined testing setups including full functional, bed of nail, PC driven and RF input and output control.  Requirements for serialization, programming, product yield analysis, lot and test documentation traceability, etc, are all available services to our customers.

We utilize personnel with experience to ensure that tests are setup and documented correctly and carried out with consistency.

Box Build

In addition to PCB assembly, Newonics offers complete assembly and packaging of the final product.  Our services include ultrasonic welding, labeling and serialization, conformal coating, programming, final test and configuration, and adding documentation.  We are ready to handle all types of fasteners and assembly needs. Our process engineers are experienced in setting up and balancing an assembly line to achieve optimal through put, thus saving our customer’s time and money.

Trouble Shooting and Rework

Our rework technicians have 4 year degrees and an average of 10 years of experience.  Because of this depth of experience with all types of assemblies we are able to communicate well with your people, problems and concerns for maintaining a quality product that can be consistently reproduced.

Capabilities include:

  • Reading and trouble shooting at the schematic level
  • BGA rework (using a PACE TF-2000 BGA rework Station)
  • Pad and Trace repair
  • Reballing BGAs

RoHS and Traceability

Newonics has been RoHS compliant since July 2006.  We offer RoHS certificates of compliance and component lot traceability for medical applications.

Unique Services

Newonics offers a number of unique services not found at many contract manufactures.  These include

Clean Assembly Lab – Newonics has built thousands of digital cameras.  Digital cameras must be assembled in a dust free environment to prevent dust from being trapped inside the camera on the CCD array.  Our experience in camera assembly makes us uniquely qualified if your assembly needs require clean assembly.

RF Screen Room – We have an RF shielded room complete with spectrum analyzer for designing and testing products that emit or are sensitive to extraneous RF signals.

Conformal Coat Lab – We have a conformal coating lab equipped with a conformal coating robot and UV cure oven.
